The sunny village of Falzes/Pfalzen (1022m) together with Issing (986m) and Greinwalden (951m) and the hamlets Platten (1,586m) and Kofl (1,487 m) were already known for its sunshiny position at Roman times. The ancient settlements have always lied on the sunny side of the mountain and valleys were considered as dangerous. There were floods, epidemics and they could be attacked or conquered easily. Since the beginning of time, Falzes/Pfalzen has been high up in every respect and it is a village rich in tradition with rural life, crafts and some tourism.
We are a culinary melting pot!
We live in a region full of culinary delights: Italian, South Tyrolean and Ladin cuisine intermingle and offer you great dishes. Typical specialities of our region are “Hasenöhrl“ and „Tirtlan“. Taste our ample farmer’s kitchen and then enjoy a gourmet dinner the next day. Schöneck and Tanzer are two of the best restaurants in South Tyrol and we are proud of that!

Well worth seeing
Our region is rich in cultural treasures!
The Parish of St. Cyriak in Falzes/Pfalzen
The path to the parish with its two big chestnut trees is rather impressive as well as the paintings by the artist Christian Holzinger on the inside. The paintings (1853) show scenes of Cyriak’s life.
The Church of St. Valentin in Falzes/Pfalzen
San Valentino is a late Gothic building with lancet windows and porch. The wooden sculptor of St. Valentin made by Michael Pacher in the 15th century and the frescos by Friedrich Pacher (1487) are of great importance.
The Church of St. Nicholas in Issing
Trying to get away from Gothic elements, the church of the 18th century has baroque features on the inside. The vault with its portrait of an angel was laid open in 1974 and according to documents it was done by the great painter and sculptor Michael Pacher (1475).
Hasenried with Brunnenkapelle
The church with its baptistery (1436) was once a well known place of pilgrimage. The spring water was thought to heal eye complaints.
Spruce tree
The single spruce tree in Issengo
With its thin and sleek branches which are closely attached to the tree trunk, this 25 m high tree is the only one of its kind in South Tyrol. Due to its unusual appearance and the special arrangement of the branches which clasp around the trunk, this tree is also called the "snake spruce". Only at the very top of the tree can you see some larger and smaller branches which look like those of a normal tree. The "snake spruce" is located near the road on the way from Terento to Falzes at the bottom of the hill on which "Schöneck" Castle thrones.
